A long time ago I lived in Ashland, Oregon and I would come up to Eugene to visit friends. A couple different times we visited this funky little market type place. It was dark and wooden and full of little shops and had a courtyard with a rooster fountain. When we moved to Eugene I kept trying to find it, to no avail. It took me two weeks of working at the renovated 5th Street Market to figure out that I was actually in the place I’d been trying to find. It has been drastically renovated. While it used to remind me of the lower levels of Pike Place Market, now it is closer to the U. Village or any of the upscale malls located in Downtown Seattle.  Oh well, people need to make money, right?

I do have this to say about the place, it’s absolutely gorgeous. And it allows me to give it a lot of different looks in good ol’ Photoshop. The orginal image was created with HDR, and the second is that same HDR image tweaked in PS with an action and a layer or two.

Why on earth would I want to have my very own washer and dryer? I would miss out on my bi-monthly trip to the ghetto-tastic laundromat. Last time I went a gentleman vomited all over the outside seating and passed out next to me on the one interior bench. This time was nowhere near as exciting, but the bunch (what is a bunch of gutter punks called, a stink? a murder? a spike? a wallup? a scab?) of gutter punks sitting outside were very interested in my camera. You may wonder why I’d want to go to this place. One word: Anachronism. I am drawn to them. And I’m happy that in processing these images I found a way to really confuse the timeline. Eugene is full of these weird pockets of temporal distortion.
